WORKOVER AND MAINTENANCE
Maintenance activities are performed throughout the life of the well to ensure the well produces at optimum levels. These services consist of mechanical repairs necessary to maintain production from the well, such as repairing parted sucker rods, replacing defective downhole pumps in an oil well or replacing defective tubing in a gas well.
In addition to periodic maintenance, producing oil and gas wells occasionally require major repairs or modifications, called "workovers." The use of workovers can often substantially increase economically recoverable oil and gas reserves.
For problem wells, the remedial action is usually to increase productivity, to open new producing zones, to eliminate excessive water or gas production, or to repair a mechanical failure. For non-problem wells, actions may be done to increase production through well stimulation or recompletion.
Typically, a workover may last from a few days to several weeks. These extensive workover operations are normally performed by a Pride servicing rig with additional specialized accessory equipment, which may include rotary drilling equipment, mud pumps, mud tanks and blowout preventers.
Pride provides the rigs, equipment and crews for these maintenance services, which are performed on both oil and gas wells. Typically, maintenance jobs are performed on a series of wells in geographic proximity to each other. Pride's rigs are designed and equipped to handle even the most complex workover operations.
